The tricky part is this is really a corporate problem, not a work problem. If corporations treat employees badly, it makes sense that many people will get the idea that work is bad. I don't agree that work is bad, as I have always worked (too) hard and yet I generally love working... But if the end result of this is that enough people complain (and quit or stop trying, which actually hits their bottom line) and that work gets better, then I think that would be a good thing. While I don't think anti-work movement makes sense as a financial concept, if the anti-work movement makes working conditions/pay better, then I don't see that as a bad thing... I think this type of thing cycles... Corporations give people jobs. Corporations start treating people badly. People react (unions, quitting, government intervention, etc.) affecting corporations. Corporations treat people better (because they have to, not because they want to). And it repeats... Tho it does feel really out of balance right now.. I really do think wages need to increase for things to get better. I'm just not sure when that is going to happen meaningfully. That doesn't fix everything, but I do remember coming home from a job while in high school and I was frustrated because it was a bad day there. And my dad said "It's a good thing they pay you then..." And that did make me feel better. Work isn't always great, but that's why you get paid... (Or that's what I've told myself.) But if you don't get paid well enough, it's no longer worth it. And when corporations are treating people badly/not paying, it doesn't mean work is bad. It means corporations are... In my home country, education is free for any citizen. The view outside countries such as the US might differ in the sense that becoming a graduate does not require an astronomical financial investment (there are private universities here as well, of course). Therefore, the only thing required from you as a student is mere effort and dedication. It is for this reason that college education is still significantly valued. Another factor to consider is the infamous ROI. I belong to the social sciences, and I simply like to study and learn, as simple as that may sound. Few people here go to university expecting to earn huge salaries. And no, my home country is not Cuba.
